We’re excited to announce that Yahoo! is enabling its employees to earn Verified Certificates by sponsoring participation in Signature Track on Coursera.

Here is a brief Q&A with Patricia Brogan, the Manager of Developer Academy at Yahoo!, to tell us more about this initiative:

Hi Pat, can you tell us more about how Yahoo! decided to partner with Coursera on this initiative?

In a recent internal survey of technical training needs, Coursera was identified as one of the best learning environments. Yahoo! has always been excited to encourage employees to participate in ways to continue to grow their technical skills, so this was a great opportunity for us to promote continued learning and development.

Yahoo! allows employees to participate in the Signature Track program which verifies their identity and provides a certificate of completion.

What is training like at Yahoo!?

Yahoo! employs, trains and grows thousands of software engineers who are continually learning new skills and applying them to create innovative products. Some courses that employees have interest in include Cryptography, Java, Machine Learning, and mobile development. Yahoo! focuses development on specific tools and technologies that will allow our employees to continually grow and develop both in their personal and professional lives. We feel that Coursera is a great vehicle delivering world-class instruction for industry-standard tools and technologies. Because of the world-wide nature of our company, and the day to day job pressures, the MOOC model is a highly attractive solution to help meet the needs of our employees.

More information on utilizing Coursera Verified Certificates within your Organization is available below:

What types of courses offer Verified Certificates?

Coursera courses span a range of categories. There are currently 50+ courses with Signature Track ranging in topics from healthcare to programming; four popular Signature Track courses are listed below:

• An Introduction to Operations Management from University of Pennsylvania, where students can learn to analyze and improve business processes, be it in services or in manufacturing.

• An Introduction to Interactive Programming in Python from Rice University helps students build programming and software development skills.

• Model Thinking from University of Michigan where students can learn to use models to make sense of the complex world around us.

Can my organization sponsor Verified Certificates for employees?

Yes. If you are an employee at a company, talk to your team to see if they can sponsor Verified Certificates. Then, sign up for the Signature Track of a course; you will receive a proof of purchase receipt that you can use to get reimbursed.
