Welcome Our Newest Partner, Nanyang Technological University (NTU)!

Today, we’re happy to announce that Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is joining Coursera, and bringing on board some exciting courses for Fall and Spring!

As a renowned research-intensive university and one of the largest public education institutions in Singapore, NTU educates more than 33,500 students across four colleges: Engineering, Business, Science, and the Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. NTU’s Business School is consistently rated one of Asia’s best business schools, and a professor in its ranks, Professor Vijay Sethi, was recently named Best Business Professor of the Year by The Economist. Its Engineering college is the 5th most cited in the world for research, and its Humanities programs include Singapore’s first professional art school. As of this year, NTU also adds the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, in a joint program with Imperial College London.

NTU will be offering a range of introductory courses, from science to art to business, over the next six months.

First, from the Physical and Mathematical Sciences department, a frequently over-subscribed course on campus, “Introduction Forensic Science” will offer a peek into the science behind the tools used by investigators to analyse crime scene evidence. Students will begin to understand the inner workings of forensic science and how it applies to crime detection and law, all from the comfort of a home computer.

Additional courses include “Beauty, Form and Function, An Exploration of Symmetry,” filmed in locations highlighting local attractions such as the Botanic Gardens, ArtScience Museum and the Fu Lu Shou complex, as well as a course on E-commerce and Technology, which is slated for the later part of 2014 and taught by Professor Vijay Sethi. Also, world-renowned geologist and Director of NTU’s Earth Observatory of Singapore, Professor Kerry Sieh, will be teaching a course on Natural Hazards.
