Today we are thrilled to announce that The University of Amsterdam (UvA) will be joining Coursera as its 2nd Dutch university in addition to Leiden University. The University of Amsterdam is the third oldest university in the Netherlands and is one of Europe’s largest research institutions. With close to 33,000 students, it is the biggest university in the Netherlands by enrollment.
The partnership will commence on September 4th, 2013. Leading the way will be Dr. Rutger de Graaf’s Introduction to Communication Science course. Dr. De Graaf is a professor in UvA’s Department of Communication Science, where he teaches courses in Intensive Communication Science, Ethics and Communication Theory & Consultancy. De Graaf is a leading expert of communication theory, history, and practical applications, and we are thrilled to help share his knowledge with the world by hosting his popular introductory course on Coursera.
As social beings, we cannot exist without communication. We need to interact with people around us to make sense of the world and to position ourselves in a wider social and cultural reality. In Introduction to Communication Science, students will examine the history of human communication from a scientific perspective. Starting with an overview of dominant theories in communication science, the course will explore the production and reinforcement of culture through communication through the lense of several disciplines including sociology and psychology.
If you are interested in taking a deep dive into communication science, sign up for this course before it begins!
