It is with great sadness that we share this news with the Coursera community: Gaetano Borriello, the Jerre D. Noe Professor of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington and co-instructor of The Hardware / Software Interface course on Coursera, passed away last week following a long fight with cancer.
Over the last six years, Gaetano fought the disease with courage, grace, optimism, and humor, continuing to teach, advise, mentor, and lead throughout. Through his work on technology for global development, Gaetano showed how research can impact the lives of people around the world.
On behalf of all Coursera learners whose lives were touched by Gaetano Borriello, we send our condolences to Gaetano’s family and friends who request privacy at this time. We are lucky to have his work captured on Coursera for millions to continue to benefit from his great teaching and generosity.1
