For his third year in law school in Brazil, Mauro Filho was required to participate in 200 extra-curricular hours outside of his regular course curriculum in court sessions, with prosecutors or judges, or pursuing an alternative study in order to graduate.
Mauro found America’s Written Constitution by Yale University on Coursera (restarting 10/20/14) and quickly signed up. He presented his Verified Certificate to the department heads, who saw value and granted him hours for each course he took. He ended up with over 150 hours on Coursera.
Furthermore, Mauro listed his Verified Certificates on his resume and began getting calls for interviews immediately. A reputable law firm in the southeastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais saw his skills and credentials, and invited him for an interview because he stood out from the rest. And thanks to the subject matter expertise he gained with Coursera, he ended up getting the job.
Mauro continues to take courses on Coursera to boost his learning and recently joined Coursera’s Global Translator Community to help translate top Coursera classes into native languages around the world.
