Learn About Our Universe From Big Bang to Dark Energy

Starting September 3, the University of Tokyo together with Coursera
bring you “From the Big Bang to Dark Energy” taught, in English, by Professor
Hitoshi Murayama, a world leading researcher into the nature of our
Universe. Starting from basic concepts and utilizing everything from
human intuition to the most recent research advances, Professor
Murayama will address the following fundamental questions that all of
us have asked at some point:

• How did the Universe begin?
• What is its fate?
• What is it made of?
• What are its fundamental laws?
• Where do we come from?

The last 20 years have seen huge progress in understanding the
nature of our Universe and it is an exciting era to live in and ponder
such deep questions! In this course you will learn how new research
and findings such as the Higgs boson, dark matter, anti-matter, and
dark energy help answer and provide clues to the above questions.

You may be afraid of a physics course with many equations. But don’t
worry! This course has been organized to accommodate both
students with or without mathematical background. He is well-known for
his clear lectures to students and general audiences alike; his book “What
is the Universe Made of?” (written in Japanese) was given a 2011 book award.
