Today, Prof. Marcel Salathé and 7 other Penn State faculty members will launch Epidemics – the dynamics of infectious diseases. As flu season is getting off the ground, this course is a timely learning experience about how epidemics unfold, and what we can do to get them under control.
Along the way, students will learn a whole lot about biology, medicine, public health, ecology & evolution, social science, and other topics relevant for infectious disease dynamics.
On the same day, the course will be launching www.moocdemic.com, a massive open online multiplayer game that simulates an unfolding, virtual epidemic with the help of participant’s mobile devices.
