The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) is recognized for the value and impact of its career-focused programs. This new degree combines engineering and management disciplines to equip students with the skills needed to take on high-impact engineering and technical management roles. Designed by industry leaders, this program prepares students for leadership and management roles in engineering and technology. Students will learn how to translate engineering into business — from communicating effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to leading the development of complex engineering projects.
As technology transforms industries, the demand for engineers continues to rise, with nearly 140,000 new U.S. jobs created by 2026. Employers are looking for professionals who can synthesize technology expertise with management skills to drive business impact. Since 2016, the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report has shown an increased demand for human skills, such as managing, decision-making, and communicating, amid accelerated automation.
The ME-EM’s core curriculum helps students build valuable foundational skills in communication, project management, finance, and leadership while elective courses hone their technical expertise in topics ranging from product development to systems engineering. With a focus on applied, real-world learning, courses involve industry case studies, data sets, and projects. Students can further engage with facilitators through live weekly office hours and collaborate with their peers in group projects and discussion boards.

Admissions are entirely application-free, based instead on performance in a series of gateway courses; all students who maintain a B average are automatically admitted. Having the program on Coursera helps us reach working professionals around the world who are looking to translate their learning into career advancement — often while still working full-time.”
CU Boulder has been an early innovator of performance-based degrees on the Coursera platform, shaping inclusive pathways to a high-quality education. Beginning in August, students can enroll in the ‘performance pathway’ courses to earn admission into the university’s third degree on Coursera.
