Technology is the greatest enabler in our global society today. It connects us across boundaries and distances, entertains us, provides outlets for creativity and discovery, and opens doors to knowledge that can improve our lives and our communities.
Today, we open a new door with help from Turkcell, the largest mobile communications provider in Turkey. We’re delighted to work with them to expand awareness of and access to online learning opportunities in Turkey, a country currently hosting more than 46,000 learners. Our hope is to grow this community through Turkcell’s vast network of subscribers, in a country where mobile connects more than 90% of the population and has become the preferred channel for spreading new knowledge.
Through our collaboration with Turkcell and current university partner Koc University, Turkish students can now visit Coursera.org to experience a Turkish User Interface and discover courses subtitled or taught in their native language. Turkcell will also be establishing a channel on Turkcell Akademi to further guide prospective learners, with particular emphasis on courses centered around business, math and technology – key subjects of global interest and growth.
If interested, here are the courses available today for you to enroll:
We believe that Coursera can play an important role in helping people to advance their skills, and we are thrilled to be partnering with Turkcell, who shares in our mission to positively influence the lives of people, their families and their communities through providing education access.
From our Co-Founder, Daphne Koller:
“We’re delighted to work with Turkcell, a company that shares our vision for an educated future and has the means to help us reach potentially millions of Turkish-speaking learners. We hope this partnership, and our work to localize content with organizations and institutions like Koc University, will become a model for how we can scale learning in other regions of the world.”
