Today, we proudly welcome Carmen Chang, General Partner and Head of Asia at New Enterprise Associates (NEA), as a director on the Coursera board. Carmen has more than 20 years of experience guiding growth companies in emerging markets. Her unique insights and expertise will help shape our efforts to meet the rising demand for online learning worldwide. She will also serve on the board’s Leadership, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Compensation Committee and the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. The appointment is also part of our ongoing commitment to expand the board with members representing a diverse range of experiences, including the appointments of Sabrina Simmons, Amanda Clark, and Ted Mitchell over the last couple of years.
“As part of the NEA team that invested early in Coursera, Carmen is intimately familiar with the company’s mission and its role in the world,” said Jeff Maggioncalda, Coursera CEO. “Her experience will be invaluable as we expand offerings and operations to serve learners and institutions across many emerging markets.”
“As the world recovers from the pandemic and faces hyper-acceleration, Coursera will play an even bigger role in helping individuals and institutions adapt and thrive in the new world,” said Carmen Chang. “Coursera is still in its early stages of growth and impact, and I am honored to serve Coursera’s mission in a new capacity.”
Carmen has been instrumental in evolving NEA’s Asia practice and has been actively involved with many seminal events in the region’s technology sector for more than two decades. Carmen serves on the board of directors for several NEA portfolio companies. She holds a JD from Stanford Law School and an MA in Modern Chinese History from Stanford University.
