Course Spotlight Series: Mobile Cloud Computing with Android is a Specialization with six courses, taught by Dr. Adam Porter of the University of Maryland, and Dr. Douglas Schmidt and Dr. Jules White from Vanderbilt University. Mobile computing is a hot topic right now. Some say we’re on the cusp of a major transformation in connecting the population of the world online. In 2014, there were estimated to be 2 billion smartphones, and this is projected to double by 2020. Android operating systems run 75% of smartphones sold. To create this Specialization, Dr. Porter and his colleagues collaborated to cover the full Android app development stack, as he explains in this clip:
These courses assume that you have programming experience, though not necessarily experience in mobile. Once learners pass the six courses, they can work on an 8-week capstone project to tie all of these skills together in a full project. A large number of learners in these courses are career changers, and want to get into mobile development.
