By Jeff Maggioncalda, CEO Coursera

Today, I am excited to announce that Marcelo Modica has joined Coursera as our new Chief People Officer. In this critical role, Marcelo will spearhead our human resources, talent, workplace experience, social impact, and DE&I strategies as we continue to advance our efforts to create a high-performing and inclusive workplace. His expertise will be invaluable to growing and expanding our teams around the world.

Marcelo has over 30 years of experience building people-centric organizations across global technology, consulting, and finance industries. His impressive career spans key roles at Robinhood, Mercer, JPMorgan Chase, Discover Financial Services, Morgan Stanley, and Prudential Securities. At Robinhood, he aligned the people strategy with the company’s mission and strategic values, significantly enhancing the employee experience. His tenure at Mercer involved managing a comprehensive people strategy for over 25,000 colleagues in more than 40 countries.

Marcelo holds a master’s degree in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Siena College. His track record of driving career development and the well-being of the workforce closely aligns with Coursera’s goal of creating an environment where talent can thrive and make a global impact.

On a related note, as announced internally in July, Rich Jacquet, our Chief People Officer for the past five years, has decided to retire. Rich has been instrumental in guiding Coursera through transformative periods, especially during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and significant phases of growth. His leadership helped us embrace the shift to a remote-first company, allowing us to live our mission more fully by tapping into talent everywhere and bringing diverse perspectives to work.

Please join me in welcoming Marcelo Modica to Coursera and expressing our heartfelt gratitude to Rich Jacquet for his incredible service.
