When Kylia found HEC Paris’ How to Become an Entrepreneur for Social Change course on Coursera, she was working as a Communications Manager for a bank in France and struggling to find meaning in her job. She thought the course might provide a perfect opportunity to explore something more meaningful – and she turned out to be right.

After enrolling in the course, Kylia attended an in-person learner meetup in Toulouse, where she met fellow learner Colline. The two hatched a business idea focused on providing community and opportunity for seniors in their community. Their idea was simple, but original – connect retirees who are passionate about cooking with local businesses that want to order fresh, home-cooked lunches for their employees. They decided to call their company “Mamie Regale”, which roughy translates to “Treats from Grandma”.

Kylia decided to quit her job at the bank and focus on Mamie Regale full time. Her courage, creativity, and dedication have paid off. The company is now running smoothly, with several employees, and offers rewarding opportunities for seniors as well as delicious meals for customers.

And the benefits have been personal as well as professional – Kylia has built lasting friendships not only with her co-founder Colline, but also with many other learners from How to Become an Entrepreneur for Social Change. “A community was born out of this course,” she says. “We continue to see each other every month.”
