The Networking in Google Cloud Platform Specialization created by the Google Cloud Training Team will teach you everything you need to know about cloud networking. By the end of the Specialization you’ll be able to design, develop, and manage networking solutions to drive business objectives. Hear more about what you’ll learn from the Specialization author and instructor, Philipp Maier:

Why was this Specialization created?

We created this Specialization because we constantly want to make Google Cloud training useful to people in more job roles. This Specialization adds a new category of jobs to those who can benefit from our training—Networking Specialists. Google Cloud customers have many employees who have made a career specialization in Networking, and these workers are looking for ways to extend their skills into the cloud.

Who is the ideal learner for this Specialization?

The Specialization is intended for Networking Specialists who are either using GCP or planning to do so. That being said, individuals who want to be exposed to software-defined networking solutions in the cloud will also benefit from this Specialization.

Why should Networking Specialists learn Google Cloud?

Consider for a second the impact Google Search has on our daily lives with timely and relevant responses. Now, think of other Google products – Gmail, Maps, Chrome, YouTube, Android, Play. Each of these products has over 1 billion monthly users. Google had to develop networking technologies to meet the requirements of a distributed computing infrastructure that can support those billions of users. Google Cloud’s goal is to share these innovations and infrastructure with others so that they can also impact and delight their users.

After completing this course, what will learners be able to add to their resume or claim they understand?

Learners will be able to design, develop, and manage networking solutions in Google Cloud Platform to drive business objectives. For example, learners will be able to configure global load balancers that can support over one million queries per second while providing built-in defenses against infrastructure DDoS attacks.

Is there a specific topic in the Specialization that most excites you?

The Specialization has a lot of exciting topics that highlight Google’s state-of-the-art, software-defined networking and distributed systems technologies. Personally, I am very excited about the labs that make up the majority of this Specialization. These labs provide learners with hands-on experience in the actual GCP environment and they focus on real-world and scenario-based use cases.

What do you want prospective learners to know about this course?

This Specialization does assume that you have networking domain knowledge. Specifically, you should have prior understanding of the OSI 7-layer model and IPv4 addressing along with experience in managing IPv4 routes.

Do you have any advice for someone starting out in this field?

The shift to cloud computing is happening now, and the network is a critical part of that infrastructure. While taking this Specialization is a step in the right direction, you need to apply what you learn by creating your own network designs that make your application and services available to your users.
